YAPHANK, NY (1010 WINS) -- It was swearing in day at a Long Island police department on Wednesday, for a trio of pint-sized officers.

Three boys battling cancer are now fighting crime in Suffolk County.

Nine-year-old Zachary Cote, 10-year-old Sean Hughes, and 11-year-old Jesse Pallas were sworn in as officers for the day by Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart.

"We're gonna show you, behind the scenes, what happens day in and day out to keep our community safe," she said.

Their schedule included meeting detectives, officers, and police dogs -- they also checked out the police helicopter.
