Bomb threat at Brooklyn Tech HS prompts evacuation

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Staff and students at Brooklyn Technical High School were evacuated and redirected to nearby Long Island University after receiving a bomb threat Thursday morning. 

Police are conducting a sweep of the area, according to a tweet from Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Officials warns drivers to consider alternate routes along that area as heavy traffic delays and road closure are expected due to the heavy police presence caused by the investigation.

A statement sent by the school's principal David Newman, confirmed that the school received a threat via email before the start fo the school day.

"All students were rerouted to Long Island University where they are with staff, and safe while police complete their investigation within the building," Newman said.

He added that they are in close contact with the NYPD and no one will be allowed into the building until they clear it.
