NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg is heading to North Carolina this weekend to open the state's campaign headquarters in Charlotte Sunday-- his campaign's first field office.

"North Carolina is an important state in the 2020 election and one of the five states where the Bloomberg campaign has committed to registering 500,000 voters from traditionally underrepresented groups," the campaign said Friday.

North Carolina's primary is on March 3, aka "Super Sunday," when more than a dozen states will have primaries that day.

About two-thirds of the Democratic delegates will be chosen by the end of March. Only nine states will have more than North Carolina’s 122, according to a state party spokesman.

At the other end of the political spectrum, Charlotte will host the 2020 Republican National Convention in August.
