Bicyclist fatally struck in hit-and-run collision on LI

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Long Island Sunday night, officials say.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on North Ocean Avenue, just north of Vehslage Street in North Patchogue.

Authorities say a man was riding a bicycle on North Ocean Avenue, when he was struck by northbound Nissan SUV driven by 42-year-old Ira Dunne.

He was then struck by a second vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Dunne was not injured and the Nissan was impounded.

Officials have not released the victim's name and an investigation remains ongoing.
