Bear Naps For Hours In Paramus Tree

April 30, 2018 - 6:01 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Animal control officers are keeping a close eye on a very sleepy bear in Paramus.

The bear made its way up a tree on Monday morning near Sirianni Park and behind the campus of Bergen Community College.

The bear then made its way down the tree and sauntered across the street before climbing up another tree on Benton Drive and took a nap.

That's where the bear's been for hours, Al Jones reported.

The bear wakes up and stretches occasionally, but there are no signs of the bear leaving anytime soon, Jones reported.

Animal Control Officers say the cub is probably 125 pounds and is looking for food since it's garbage day. They say it's safer to try to catch him with net as opposed to tranquilizer darts since he's about 30 feet up, Jones reported.

However, they will use tranquilizers if the bear makes a move to busy Route 17.
