NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- By the end of the year there will be no more plastic straws at Barclays Center.

The venue will become New York City's first sports and entertainment facility to make the move.

The news comes on the heels of word that Disney is joining the movement as well.

The company announced that single use straws and plastic stirrers will be eliminated from locations worldwide by this time next year.

Disney says the elimination will add up to a reduction of more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers every year. This as Starbucks phases out single use straws from its more than 28,000 locations.

Disney is also transitioning to refillable in-room amenities at hotels and cruise ships which they believe will reduce plastic usage by 80 percent.
