NEW YORK (AP) -- Authorities say they're investigating gunfire by law enforcement that snarled traffic near midtown Manhattan.

The authorities said on Thursday that a Drug Enforcement Administration team was trailing the car of a suspect on the West Side Highway when the gunfire occurred.

They said no one was wounded and the suspect's vehicle sped away.

They said that suspect and others were later arrested at a heroin mill in the Bronx. No other detais were immediately available.

The New York Police Department had tweeted earlier Thursday that the major thoroughfare along the Hudson River had to be closed in both directions between 42nd and 56th streets.

The brief closure occurred during a week when frozen zones diverted traffic away from the east side of Manhattan because of activities at the United Nations.
