NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The New York State Legislature will begin screening candidates for state attorney general to replace Eric Schneiderman who resigned last week.

Public interviews will be held Tuesday and Wednesday in Albany.

Thirteen people have applied to fill the vacancy, including Barbara Underwood, the state solicitor general who's serving as acting attorney general.

The legislature could appoint someone to serve out the last seven months of Schneiderman's term, leave Underwood in place for the rest of the year or lawmakers could decide to wait to appoint the winner of the November election.

Schneiderman resigned after four women claimed he assaulted and abused them. He denies the allegations saying what happened was role playing duirng consensual sex.

A special prosecutor is investigating.
