NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD has made an arrest about a week after an off-duty officer was attacked in Brooklyn.

Aleksejs Saveljev, a 32-year-old Brooklyn man, was arrested on assault charges, according to the NYPD.

Police say a 29-year-old officer was walking his dog near Williams Court and East 11th Street in Sheepshead Bay on Nov. 8 when he was approached from behind by a man who attacked him.

The attacker pummeled the officer in the head and face with an unknown object while yelling at him in Russian, according to police.

The officer suffered a fractured cheekbone and several lacerations to his head and face. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition and later released.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Saveljev had an attorney.
