NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man who they say lied his way into the home of an elderly Bronx woman before attempting to rape her.

NYPD arrested Gary Mallette, 51, around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday and charged him with robbery, burglary, predatory sexual assault, sexually motivated assault, and unlawful imprisonment.

According to a report from CBS New York, Mallette posed as a NYCHA maintenance man at the Castle Hill housing complex when he knocked on the victim’s door.

When she opened it, police said the suspect pushed his way in, hit her multiple times, ripped her clothes and then attempted to rape her.

The victim fought back but Mallette managed to take off with her cellphone and jewelry, police said.
