NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- NYPD officers fatally shot a knife-wielding woman who lunged at them while they investigated a reported robbery in the home.

At 5:26 p.m., police responded to a 911 call by the woman at her Maspeth home. Upon arrival, officers found the woman armed with a knife and demanded she lower her weapon.

The woman did not comply with officers’ requests and she was fatally shot.

“One of the officers gave direction to put the knife down, we know this because there was body camera video. Subsequently, one officer discharges his service weapon three times, striking the female in the torso,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermont Shea said.

The boyfriend of 54-year-old woman, identified as Susan Muller, said she had become agitated when a pharmacist refused to fill her prescription for painkillers for her knee.

A neighbor also spoke out saying he witnessed the woman have multiple emotional breakdowns.

Police say the woman's motivation is not yet known, but found an extensive history of calls to Muller’s residence.
