WASHINGTON (AP) — A juror in Paul Manafort's case reported during the trial that another juror made comments about the weakness of the former Trump campaign chairman's defense.

That's according to transcripts of bench discussions unsealed a day after Manafort was convicted of eight criminal counts.

The disclosure prompted a secret hearing in which jurors were questioned about whether the comment would affect their ability to make a fair and impartial verdict.

The transcript says the juror heard another juror say she didn't believe Manafort had much of a case to present. The juror also heard other jurors talk about the case despite U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III admonishments not to do so.

The report of the jury comments came on the ninth day of Manafort's trial, before deliberations began.
