Senate Dems on Green New Deal debate: 'Bring it on'

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats in the Senate say they welcome Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's plan to force them into difficult votes on the Green New Deal.

Sen. Chuck Schumer said Thursday that Republicans think they will embarrass Democrats, who are split on the climate change resolution from newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that calls for severely limiting sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

But Schumer, joined by colleagues on the Senate floor, said: "Bring it on." He said Democrats "believe that we need to do something about climate change" and added: "Do Republicans?"

Democrats say Republicans have failed to address the issue as the majority.

McConnell announced the Senate will vote soon on the Green New Deal resolution. Republicans oppose the resolution.
