NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- The NYPD says officers shot a 49-year-old woman who was threatening them with a knife in Queens.

The woman was taken to a hospital after the shooting late Friday in Queens Village. Police say she is in stable condition.

Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison says two officers spotted a woman acting "erratically'' in front of a car wash.

He says the woman threw a bottle at the officers and brandished a knife at them.

Harrison says the woman refused the officers' orders to drop the knife. He says one of the officers shot the woman in the abdomen as she was advancing toward them with the knife in her hand.

Harrison says the woman fled and was apprehended a block away by two backup officers who subdued her with a stun gun.
