NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has named her new French bulldog Deco after the Art Deco movement.

AOC posted an Instagram story Sunday about how she and her boyfriend Riley Roberts came up with the name.

“As we took him for a walk and discussed it, a neighbor suggested we name him after an artist,” AOC wrote in the video. “We loved the idea, and decided to name him after one of Riley & I’s favorite design styles: Art Deco – which also is inspired by themes of optimism & social and technological progress, and is a fixture in iconic NYC architecture.’’

AOC also wrote about how Deco is coming out of his shell: “Deco’s personality has really emerged in the last day or two, now that he’s more comfortable and confident at home.” He’s a playful, observant, sensitive, & affectionate boy.”

The post came days after PETA’s president slammed the congresswoman in a letter for not getting a shelter dog and instead picking a purebred bulldog.

“We really couldn’t believe our eyes, because you are a role model for how to live, so we understand that you didn’t realize what you were doing in this case — you couldn’t have,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk wrote. “French bulldogs are inbred in order to produce ‘breed-specific traits,’ which cause health problems that many people who will be influenced by your purchase won’t be able to afford to address.”
