NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It may have not been a mob hit but something else.

Anthony Comello, 24, is in custody in New Jersey and will return to Staten Island to face murder charges for the killing of Francesco Cali, Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea announced Saturday.

The unanswered question is to why Comello, the Staten Island resident, pumped Cali with 10 bullets Wednesday night.

Reports say Comello may have believed that "Franky boy" stood in the way of his romance with the boss's niece.

One source told the Daily News that Comello was misunderstood and a little mentally disfigured, but that he loved the girl a lot.

The Advance talked to Comello's neighbors who called him a "good kid" and a "nice guy."

Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea told reporters Saturday that the investigation into the motive would continue.

According to reports police searched Comello's Staten Island home and found a cache of weapons and they found his pickup truck in New Jersey.

Comello is awaiting extradition from Ocean County Jail to face the murder and weapons charges.
