NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that if Trump wasn't elected to the presidency three years ago, she’d probably be a high school teacher instead of one of the biggest names in Congress.

The freshman lawmaker made the comments in an interview on the late-night Showtime show “Desus & Mero.”

Ocasio-Cortez was the first guest on the show, which is hosted by Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, according to The Daily Beast. The Bronx duo introduced her as “The Notorious AOC.”

“Times of great challenge can also bring out the best in people too,” she said of her rise to political stardom. “So I think that’s what we’re really seeing right now.”

The congresswoman, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, says that she doesn’t regret getting into politics, even if it has meant some unwelcome attention and trolling on Twitter. She called criticism she receives on social media “so weak.”

“It is heavy. But in a weird way, that stuff is validation that you’re doing something real,” she said.

She went on to say: “Because if you’re just flying under the radar, just trying to get your check, not rock the boat, then what’s the point of being in politics? […] What is the point of doing things if you’re just trying to maintain the status quo that doesn’t help people?”
