NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez is reportedly among those considering buying the Mets.

A-Rod’s has recently become very interested in purchasing the team and is currently “kicking the tires,” baseball and Wall Street sources told the New York Post.

Rumors of his potential purchase come days after billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen apparently bailed on a $2.6 billion deal for the team—reportedly after the Wilpon family sought to retain control of the team for five years after its sale.

“(Rodriguez) genuinely loves the Mets,” one source close to A-Rod told the Post. “He and J.Lo have talked about him buying a team ever since (Derek) Jeter got the Marlins.”

The Mets are expected to soon tell prospective buyers they’re looking for around $3 billion.

A-Rod’s net worth is reportedly $350 million, while J.Lo’s is around $400 million, so they could potentially make a group bid.

Another source told the Post that Cohen isn’t out of the running and there’s “no chance A-Rod pulls that off.”

“This auction will not get close to $3 billion, and it will be lucky to get over $2 billion,” the source said. “Steve (Cohen) knows that, he’s talking to people and he’s waiting for the Wilpons to come back begging for $2.6 billion and no five-year window.”
