Alabama newspaper editor says KKK should ‘clean out D.C.’

MONTGOMERY, AL (1010 WINS) -- Last week, the editor of a small newspaper in Alabama published an editorial calling for the return of the KKK.

Hardly anyone seemed to notice, until the piece in the Democratic Reporter was posted online by an Auburn University student, and went viral.

Now, Democratic Alabama Senator Doug Jones, is calling for editor Goodloe Sutton to resign, saying the piece is disgusting and hateful.

“Seems like the Klan would be welcome to raid the gated communities up there (the northeast U.S.),” Sutton wrote.

For his part, Sutton doubled down making references to lynchings and getting the "KKK to clean out D.C."

"We'll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them.” he wrote. “These are socialist-communists we're talking about (not real Americans). Do you know what socialism and communism is?"

Sutton also claimed that the Klan only killed 'a few people' and that it wasn't 'violent until they needed to be.'
