Mayor's Alliance spokesman Steve Gruber tells 1010 WINS these Adoptapalooza events not only help hundreds of animals find forever homes, they also raise awareness about pet adoption in general. "We encourage people to adopt rather than shop at a pet store, as many of those animals come from puppy mills and kitten factories",  Gruber told 1010 WINS.  "There are so many wonderful animals that are here already, deserve good homes and will make loving companions, and so we encourage people to adopt rather than shop."
