ADHD Medications Leading To An Increasing Number Of Poison Control Calls, Study Finds

May 21, 2018 - 11:54 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The number of calls to poison control centers for children and adolescents ingesting ADHD medications has been going up.

A study in the journal Pediatrics says the number rose by more than 60 percent from 2000 to 2014.

This includes intentional and unintentional exposure.

The new research comes a day after the incoming president of the National Rifle Association, Oliver North, blamed the drug Ritalin in part for high profile shootings.

Another study in 2017, found that ADHD diagnoses more than doubled between 2005 and 2014.
