Activists Rally Around New York As DACA Deadline Passes

March 05, 2018 - 2:36 pm

WASHINGTON D.C. (1010 WINS) -- Monday was the deadline set by President Donald Trump to end Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals -- or DACA -- but courts have put that on hold.

According to a lawsuit filed in New York against the Department of Homeland Security, the March 5, memo would have meant that 1,400 DACA recipients would lose their legal status every working day.

The Supreme Court stayed out of the dispute, which allowed a federal court ruling that the memo cannot be enforced to stand while the case goes through the courts.

Supporters of the so-called 'Dreamers' were planning a 'Make the road New York' event on Roosevelt Avenue in Elmhurst, Queens, and in Brentwood, Long Island.

Activists in New Jersey were planning rallies in six different municipalities.
