NEW YORK (AP) -- A former New York City police officer has been sentenced to up to 15 years in jail for a 2016 drunken driving accident in Brooklyn that killed a pedestrian and injured three others.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Nicholas Batka, of Brooklyn, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular manslaughter and other charges.

Authorities say Batka had been drinking with friends in Williamsburg and was driving his SUV at about three in the morning when he jumped a curb and struck four pedestrians.

A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrians suffered various injuries. Police say Batka's blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

Batka was a probationary officer assigned to the Manhattan Transit Task Force. He was fired after the accident.
