9/11 Victims’ Families To Announce Next Steps In Lawsuit Against Saudis

April 07, 2018 - 4:16 pm

HARTFORD, Conn (1010 WINS) -- Families of September 11 victims will meet in Hartford on Monday to announce the next steps in a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia over claims that it had a role in the terror attacks.

The families sued Saudi Arabia in 2003, over its alleged backing of the attackers. They noted that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis but the Saudi government has denied involvement.

Federal la at the time shielded foreign government actors from such lawsuits in American courts, but Senator Richard Blumenthal helped pass a 2016 law to allow the suits.

A federal judge cited the 2016 law last month in ordering Saudi Arabia and its agents to release information about any involvement in the attacks.
