'They boxed me': 87-year-old grandma mugged after church in NJ

January 30, 2019 - 9:40 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police in Jersey City are trying to find the cowards who severely beat an 87-year-old woman over the weekend.

Ana Lagundi was heading home from Mass at Our Lady of Mercy on the city’s West Side Saturday night, when suddenly two men grabbed her from behind and knocked her to the ground, police say.

“Then they boxed me. Three times. They boxed me here, they boxed me here. Injured my mouth,” the great grandmother told ABC 7.

“I’m crying. I tremble, I tremble. I’m crying,” she said.

Incredibly, Lagundi, whose right eye is still swollen and bloody, says she's praying for the men who beat and robbed her of $20.

"I forgive them," she said. "I thank God that I am alive."

Jersey City police aren’t likely to be as forgiving when they catch the men, who were captured by a surveillance camera.
