NEW YORK (1010 WINS) Eight people have been busted for using fake parking placards to get out of tickets or park illegally in New York City.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance announced the arrests today along with city agencies.

One of the defendants tried to use a handicapped parking placard to get out of a ticket, while another had a fake pass that said he worked at a blood donation center.

The eight people are from different parts of the city, and one is from New Jersey.

They are charged with a class E felony and face up to four years in jail if convicted.

In February, Mayor de Blasio announced that he would crack down on parking placard abuse by city officials.
