59-year-old woman found fatally struck on Bronx street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating a car that fatally struck a pedestrian in the Bronx on Monday.

Officers were called to Sampson Avenue and East Tremont just after 6 p.m. where they discovered a 59-year-old woman with head trauma, lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS transported woman to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where she was later pronounced dead.

NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad learned that a 2009 Mazda 3 sedan was traveling southbound on East Tremont Avenue when it struck the woman while she was crossing eastbound on Sampson Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
