51-year-old man fatally struck in Bronx hit-and-run, driver sought by NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 51-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Bronx early Tuesday officials said.

The incident occurred at East Tremont Avenue and Prospect Avenue at approximately 1:25 a.m. in East Tremont section.

The man was utilizing the crosswalk, attempting to cross East Tremont Avenue from north to south when he was struck by a speeding sedan driving westbound, according to NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad. 

Officials said the car kept going and did not remain at the scene.

Witnesses said the crash sounded like an explosion.

The impact of the collision threw the victim across Prospect Avenue.

He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where he died just minutes later, police said. 

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have not yet released the man's identification.
