5-Alarm Fire Completely Guts Seven Businesses In The Bronx

April 24, 2018 - 11:04 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Fire destroyed a building housing seven businesses in the Fordham section of the Bronx on Tuesday.

The 5 alarm blaze was brought under control thanks to the work of 250 firefighters.

"Upon arrival we had heavy fire conditions, heavy smoke conditions in all seven stores. As you can see, the building is totally destroyed. At the present time we have zero injuries to civilians or Firefighters. The success here today is that we have no injuries. The bad news is that we have a total loss of a building and seven businesses have lost their building. The fire is still not under control. The fire will be investigated by Fire Marshals," FDNY Chief of Department James E. Leonard said.

Devastated residents said the new supermarket, and other stores destroyed in the fire were the lifeblood of the neighborhood, Carol D'Auria reported.

"They just expanded that store. That's the best supermarket around here and the prices are cheap," said local resident Demaris.

Luckily, a new grocery store was saved and nobody was injured.
