NEWARK (1010 WINS) – Four young women were shot in Newark Saturday night as they lit candles at the memorial for their friends who died in a crash involving a stolen car.

Newark police tell 1010 WINS that the four women were lighting candles on the corner of Bergen Street and Madison Avenue just after 9:15 p.m. when a man walked up and shot them.

One woman was struck in her head and the other three women were hit in their legs, police said.

All four women, ranging in age from 16 to 20, were taken to University Hospital, where one of them was in critical condition.

The other three victims were in stable condition, police said.

The women were at a memorial for two young men killed in a crash involving a stolen car last week.
