JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A large blaze ripped through two multifamily homes and caused three cars to catch fire early Wednesday in Jersey City, officials say.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. to battle the thick flames and heavy smoke on Mercer street.

The four-alarm fire was placed under control around 4:30 a.m. officials said.

There were no injuries reported but at least 10 residents have been displaced from their homes as a result.

According to a preliminary investigation, the fire started in one of the homes and quickly spread across a narrow alleyway to the second home causing three vehicles outside of the building to catch fire as well.
