4-Alarm Blaze Destroys Kosher Deli In Passaic

April 18, 2018 - 10:34 am

PASSAIC, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A well known deli went up in flames Wednesday morning, in Passaic. Two people living upstairs had to be rescued.

One of the few kosher restaurants in the growing orthodox community, the King Of Delancey was wiped out by a four alarm blaze, and the Main Avenue building is now in danger of collapse.

Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost said when they arrived at 5:30 a.m. they didn't see much fire.

"At that point there was no visible fire, once we got to the rear we were immediately hit with a ball of fire. So the basement appeared to be the start of this four alarm fire. Well advanced fire in the basement, once it got through into the walls there was no stopping it," he said.

A man and a woman in an upstairs apartment had to be rescued via ladder, they were not hurt.
