NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo was sown in to his third term in office on Tuesday night, and in his inaugural address he pledged that New York would lead the nation with a  progressive agenda.

The governor delivered a blistering attack on Republicans in Washington, though he didn't specifically mention them by name.

“America’s only threat is from within,” he said. “It is the growing division among us.”

The governor said he feels liberated now that Democrats control both houses of the state Legislature.

And he said that in the next 100 days he’ll propose the most progressive agenda New York has ever seen.

Cuomo said he’ll focus on protecting the labor movement and abortion rights, enacting voting and criminal justice reform, legalizing marijuana and pursuing a Green New Deal.

The governor turned deadly serious at one point, invoking the memory of his late father, Gov. Mario Cuomo.

“I’d imagine his pain and anger if he could see his beloved country today,” he said.

Cuomo was speaking from an Ellis Island kept open by state funds.

“The federal government may shut itself down, but it will never extinguish the Statue of Liberty’s torch,” he said.

Letitia James was also sworn in as the state's first African-American and first woman attorney general.
