NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – About a quarter of U.S. households know someone who has been evicted, according to a national survey by the New York Federal Reserve.

The survey found more than 24 percent of U.S. households know someone who has been evicted—and about 4 percent have been evicted themselves.

For current renters, the rate was “substantially higher,” the survey found; 37 percent of renters know someone who was evicted since 2006 and 9 percent have been evicted themselves.

The New York Fed conducted its survey on evictions as millions of American renters risk losing their homes when moratoriums put in place because of the coronavirus pandemic end.
