NEW YORK (AP) -- Two teenage girls have suffered burns in a chemistry experiment at a New York City high school.

The accident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Bronx International High School.

WABC-TV reports that the two students suffered burns to their faces, arms and hands when vapors from a bottle of alcohol caught fire.

Department of Education spokeswoman Miranda Barbot says the students are in stable condition being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

She says the school's chemistry lab will be out of use until the Fire Department completes its investigation into the accident.
