2 killed, 9 hurt when van crashes into tree in Westchester

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two people were killed and nine were injured on Monday when a van crashed into a tree in Rockland County, officials said.

The collision occurred around 4:21 p.m. on Monday on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near EXIT 11 and Route 45.

Upon arrival, Ramapo Police officers observed that a 2009 Ford Econoline van had left the roadway and struck a tree.

The van, which sustained heavy damage, was occupied by the driver and 10 occupants.

Several of the occupants had to be extricated by fire officials.
All of the occupants were transported to either Nyack Hospital or Westchester Medical Center.

Some of those injuries are considered to be serious.

Two of the passengers, a 47 year-old-man and a 22-year-old man were pronounced dead at Nyack Hospital.

It is not yet clear what caused the van to lose control and the crash is currently under investigation.
