2 dead, 4 injured in shooting at Univ. of North Carolina at Charlotte, shooter reportedly a student

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (1010 WINS/AP) — Two people are dead and four others injured after a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency said. 

Local media reported that the alleged shooter, now in police custody is a student at the school, Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22.

UNC Charlotte's Office of Emergency Management tweeted at 5:50 p.m., "NinerAlert: Shots reported near kennedy. Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately. Monitor email and http://emergency.uncc.edu."

About fifteen minutes later, the school's OEM office tweeted, "NinerAlert: Campus lockdown continues. Remain in a safe location. Monitor email and UNCC homepage."

At 6:43 p.m., the office tweeted, "NinerAlert: Buildings being swept by law enforcement. Law enforcement is individually sweeping buildings on campus. Follow officer commands."

Aerial shots from local television news outlets showed police officers running toward a building, while another view showed students running on a campus sidewalk.

The campus was to host a concert at the school's football stadium.
