June 12, 2018 - 1:20 pm

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A man and woman are under arrest following a police chase on Long Island.

Police say the incident started with a traffic stop for a suspected stolen car.

Authorities say the suspects had been pulled over on Front Street near Hendrickson Avenue in Hempstead but took off, ramming the SUV into several parked cars, a police cruiser and nearly hitting an officer.

Authorities say the officer fired two shots but didn't hit anyone.

The suspects managed to escape, but were taken into custody minutes later after crashing into a box truck, injuring the driver and sending both vehicles onto a resident's front lawn.

The box truck driver had to be extricated from the truck. He's being treated for a broken leg.

Charges against the suspects are still pending.
