2 arrested for multiple armed robberies at LI gas stations

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County Police arrested two people on Wednesday accused of committing multiple armed robberies in the past two months.

Police say Jhan Carlos Fernandez Espinal committed eight robberies in October and November 2019 and Marta Rafalko was involved in four of the eight robberies.

After an investigation, Fernandez Espinal and Rafalko were arrested in the parking lot of Ultra Gas Station, located at 571 West Montauk Highway, Lindenhurst, at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Fernandez Espinal was charged with eight counts of Robbery 1st Degree.

Rafalko was charged with four counts of Robbery 1st Degree for the incidents that occurred on October 28, November 1 and November 6.

Fernandez Espinal is accused of robbing several gas stations on Long Island including a BP, at 1235 Route 231 in North Babylon, on October 5 at 12:10 a.m., a USA Gasoline at 188 N Wellwood Ave., located in Lindenhurst, on October 28 at 7:37 p.m. and then an Exxon, at hours later, at 570 Sunrise Highway, West Islip, on October 28 at 11:30 p.m. and an Ok Petroleum gas station at in West Babylon, on November 6 at 12:53 p.m.

Both suspects are being held overnight and scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central IslipThursday.
