NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 14-year-old boy was killed when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a dump truck in Queens on Saturday afternoon, police say.

The teen, identified as Mario Venezuela of Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene in Long Island City.

Police say Venezuela was traveling east beside a truck on Borden Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. when a 33-year-old man driving the truck took a right turn onto 11th Street.

The truck struck the cyclist, who was run over by the vehicle's back wheels, according to police.

The truck driver stayed at the scene and has not been charged.

Police said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Venezuela is the latest victim in what has been an especially deadly year for cyclists on the streets of New York.

He is the 21st cyclist killed in 2019—about the same number of cyclists were killed in all of 2018, according to the Daily News.
