NEW YORK (1010 WINS) They’re ready to let the four legged ghosts and goblins out on the lower east side.

The 28th Annual Halloween Dog Parade will take place Sunday, October 28, 2018 from noon to 3 p.m. at the amphitheater in East River Park.

Over the summer, the parade's previous organizer Garrett Russo announced it had been cancelled due to the increased financial cost of meeting insurance requirements by the NYC Parks Department to hold it at its regular venue, Tompkins Square Park, where last year the event attracted more than 25,000 people and some 500 dogs.

Needless to say, the announcement sparked a public outcry over what has been a nearly 30 year tradition in the Big Apple, raising money for the Tompkins Square Park dog run. City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera and this year's parade organizer Ada Nieves worked with the local civic group Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) which agreed to carry the insurance policy this year. In addition, ESPN is donating $10,000 to the City Parks Foundation and ESPN personality Katie Nolan will host.

1010 WINS Anchor & AllForAnimalsTV host Susan Richard will serve as one of the judges.

The parade takes place rain or shine.
