NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An argument over bumping on the subway turned into a violent melee Thursday morning in Brooklyn.

Eyewitness Doug says it all started when one man apparently bumped into another man riding on a Manhattan-bound A train around 8:30 a.m.

"I could hear an exchange on the train, people on the train compressed and opened an area where these two guys started wrestling," he said.

It's not clear who bumped who, but a man wearing red pants started slugging a second man.

The two men began rolling around on the floor of the subway car. When the doors opened at High Street, the man in the red pants was shoved onto the platform.

Doug said the guy in red pants was bloodied up and tried to get back onto the train, but the other guy kept pushing him out.

That's when the guy in the red pants pulled our his pepper spray, spraying his opponent and others in the vicinity. He then threw the empty pepper spray can at the man he was fighting with.

"Some got in the train, it was apparent, you could feel it in your eyes and your throat," he said.

At some point, the man in the red pants pulled out a knife and began menacing the guy he was fighting with, and anyone else who came near him. Doug said he believes the other guy got stabbed before fleeing the station.

Finally, another train came into the station going in the opposite direction, and many people jumped on board to get away.

Doug said he saw the guy with the red pants running up the stairs with the knife.

Cops said they have one person in custody, and a woman was taken to the hospital for exposure.
