FAYETTEVILLE, NC (1010 WINS) -- Nearly a dozen volunteer firefighters are accused of setting a number of fires in Robeson County, North Carolina.

A year long investigation has produced arson charges against ten North Carolina volunteer firefighters. They were arrested and accused of intentionally torching woods and abandoned homes going back two years.

Officials say they may not be the only ones.

"This is an ongoing investigation of individuals, so we're cooperating with the investigation to gather the facts," State Fire Marshal Mike Causey said.

Federal officials said firefighter arson remains a rare but serious problem.
