1 worker dead, 1 seriously injured following accident at demolition site in Queens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One construction worker is dead and a second is in serious condition following the collapse at a demolition site Queens on Thursday morning, officials said.

The city's Department of Buildings (DOB) said the incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. 147-07 94th Avenue in Jamaica. The demolition was of an existing 3-story building.

The DOB said it's investigating the cause of the accident. The injured worker was transported to Jamaica Hospital.

"Any loss of life on a construction site is a tragedy, and our engineers and inspectors are already on site conducting a thorough investigation. We want to assure the families of the victims that we will hold all responsible parties accountable to the fullest extent of the law," said DOB Commissioner Melanie E. La Rocca.
