1 killed, 1 critical after 2-alarm fire rips through Brooklyn apartment

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 37-year-old man was killed and a 22-year-old woman remains in critical condition after a fire ripped through a Brooklyn apartment early Wednesday morning. 

Officials responded to a two-alarm blaze shortly after 2 a.m. inside the top floor apartment at 155 5th Avenue in the Park Slope area.

Once FDNY was able to extinguish the flames, they discovered a 22-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man inside the apartment, unconscious and unresponsive. 

EMS transported both victims to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where the man was pronounced dead.

The woman remains in critical condition after sufferering from smoke inhalation.

The FDNY Fire Marshal will determine the cause of the fire abd the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

An investigation is ongoing.
