NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – At least one person is dead after a horrific crash on Riverside Drive in Manhattan early Sunday.

A witness says he saw a Toyota Camry speeding downhill on West 155th Street in Washington Heights – the wrong way on a one-way street.

The vehicle smashed through a retaining wall by Riverside Drive around 4 a.m. and fell about 30 feet to the pavement below, just outside a cemetery, the witness said.

“It hits the brick wall, flips over, so I immediately run over to see what’s going on and I see the car catch ablaze, a guy crawling out,” he said.

That 37-year-old passenger was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say the driver of the car was killed.

Police are investigating and don’t know yet if weather played a role.
